Meet Our Team

Geelong Veterinary Hospital is a purpose built clinic set in Grovedale. We are situated only 10 minutes from the heart of Geelong, 5 minutes from Warralily/Armstrong Creek and only 60 minutes from Melbourne. Our strengths here at the clinic are our experience, commitment to the highest standard of service and professional veterinary care. We have all the facilities and technical expertise to offer first class care for your pets.

We have been operating for approximately 30 years and are here to ensure your pets receive the best care possible.

The clinic offers treatment on all animals from horses, dogs and cats all the way through to cattle, sheep, goats, alpacas and pigs.

Geelong Veterinary Hospital is a small team made up of our practice manager, three veterinarians and four veterinary nurses. All of our staff are both very professional and knowledgeable and have many years of experience between them. Read our brief biographies below to learn a little about each of us.

James Vanner

Veterinarian & Practice Owner (BVSc)

Dr James Vanner is our fantastic clinic owner and director and has been practicing veterinary for almost 30 years. James has extensive knowledge and experience in horse and small animal work, with a particular interest in surgery including orthopaedic surgery and reproductive work in both dogs and horses.

James also is a registered breeder for high quality German Shorthaired Pointers, suitable for hunting, showing or as family members.

Nicky Ganim

Practice Manager (Certificate IV in Bookkeeping)

Nicky is our wonderful practice manager who joined us in late 2019, and brings with her years of experience running a business. If you can’t find her making sure the clinic is running smoothly, she will most certainly be found cuddling all the cute animals we have in the clinic.

Although Nicky doesn’t come from a veterinary background, her passion for animals is obvious to anyone who meets her. Nicky comes from 15 years of experience in bookkeeping and is always up for a chat with our lovely clients. Outside of work, Nicky spends much of her time with her furry and feathered family including her four cats Simba, Claws, Monty, Tiger & Meika the quaker parrot.

Nicky is the sunshine in our clinic and an absolute asset to Geelong Veterinary Hospital.

Tom Milton

Veterinarian (BVSc (Hons))

Dr Tom began vetting with us late 2020 as a locum and liked us so much he decided to stick around. He graduated from the University and after spending time in mixed practice on the Bass Coast and locuming in small animal clinics in Melbourne, decided to escape COVID lockdown and relocate to the Bellarine.

Tom has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery and enjoys helping clients get on top of their pet’s long-standing medial issues. Away from the clinic, he enjoys mountain biking, SUPing and spending time with his lovely wife Paola and their cheeky young daughter. Before he entered the veterinary profession, Dr Tom was a professional actor and can still occasionally be found gracing your TV screen.

Tom is a fantastic addition to our team and we love having him here.

Kuan-Lun Chen (Chris)

Veterinarian (DVM)

Dr Chris is our newest member of the team and has settled in wonderfully. Chris, born and raised in Taiwan, came to Australia to pursue his dream of becoming a veterinarian and graduated from the University of Melbourne with his doctorate in 2020 and joined us early 2021.

Chris has special passion in surgery and equine medicine and has already performed several complex surgeries such as gastropexy and liver tumour removal surgery. Outside the clinic, Chris is dad to his two gorgeous rescue cats, Percy and Phoebus, he also enjoys playing musical instruments such as bass and guitar.

If you have any Mandarin speaking friends that need veterinary service, Chris is here to help!
